SIR BARKSALOT

 
 

Premise:

Tommy Dogooder, an accident prone yet kind-hearted eight-year-old, is obsessed with superheroes and longs to be just like the people in his comic books, saving the day from dastardly villains and being awesome. Little does Tommy know that he has a tail-wagging, butt-sniffing superhero living right under his nose—his sausage dog, Sir Barksalot!

Sir Barksalot may look like your average pooch, but this canine is top dog when it comes to saving the day. That is until his owner, Tommy, barks up the wrong tree and tries to thwart some bad guys on his own.

When Tommy’s mother, Mayor Dogooder, pleads on the local news for a savior to help protect Sunnyside City from the forces of evil, Tommy dons his cape—made from his pillow case—and skips off to save the day. The city needs help, and he is just the hero-in-training for the job. His comics having taught him everything he needs to know. Besides, how hard can it be?

What ensues is a series of slapstick capers full of hijinks and hiccups as Sir Barksalot desperately tries to keep the delusional yet brave Tommy out of trouble, which always manages to ultimately save the day in the process, only furthering Tommy’s belief that he is indeed a superhero.


Characters: 

Tommy Dogooder

A chubby eight-year-old with a propensity for unknowingly getting himself into trouble. Tommy blunders through life like a bull in a china shop, accidently breaking things wherever he goes, pressing up against big red buttons with warning signs above them, and wandering into the middle of the evil schemes of bad guys. His kind heart and bravery are both commendable and valuable assets for any good hero. The rest of it? Well… it could use some work. But that doesn’t stop our optimistic and delusional hero-in-training from trying his best – even if makes Sir Barksalot’s job a heap more complicated!

To those not in-the-know, Sir Barksalot is a silly sausage dog who likes long walks in the park, tasty treats, and chasing the mailman. It’s merely a cover, a deliberate disguise to hide his identity as Sunnyside City’s resident hero. From the mad scientist, Doctor Boom, to his arch nemesis, Count Kitty, Sir Barksalot struggles to keep the bad guys at bay while juggling his two very different lives. His world becomes a lot more complicated when Tommy proclaims himself a hero-in-training and gets in more than enough trouble to keep our courageous canine on his paws.

#1 A Hero is Born… Kinda – When burglars break into a bank to steal a precious diamond from the vaults, Tommy Dogooder decides to take matters into his own chubby hands. Donning a disguise to mask his identity, Tommy runs off into danger to save the hostages. Meanwhile, Sir Barksalot is already at work and has concocted a fool proof plan to take down the robbers. His plans are ruined when he spots his naïve owner slipping into the bank and now must find a way to keep Tommy out of harm’s way, while somehow saving the day.

 

#2 The Purr-fect Plan – Things are quiet in Sunnyside City until Sir Barksalot’s arch nemesis, Count Kitty, slinks back into town. Intent on taking down Sir Barksalot once and for all, the cat discovers his disguise as a silly sausage dog living with the Mayor and her son. Count Kitty tricks Tommy and lures him into a trap. With his owner used as bait, Sir Barksalot is forced to face the fearsome feline to save Tommy before Count Kitty gets his claws on him.

 

#3 Fieldtrip Fiasco – When Tommy and the rest of his class at Sunnyside Elementary go on a fieldtrip to a science museum, Tommy thinks his biggest trouble is contending with the school bully, Billy Bullfist. Until Doctor Boom turns up. Doctor Boom steals a reactor to charge his latest creation, a robotic monster that can crush the city to smithereens. Sir Barksalot is on the case and goes to destroy the monster before he can do any harm, but Tommy arrives with plans of his own and soon becomes the robot’s number one target.

 

#4 Puppy Problems When a defenceless puppy turns up at Tommy’s door, our brave hero-in-training takes in the little stray. Sir Barksalot sniffs trouble, and suspects there is something fishy going on with the new arrival. Believing Sir Barksalot is jealous, Tommy locks him out in the garden after he tries to confront the puppy. But Sir Barksalot is right. He catches the tiny dog hatching an evil plot and must work to reveal the canine’s true nature before it’s too late and his owner, and the rest of Sunnyside City, become puppy chow.

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR

Eric Proctor is an illustrator who enjoys bringing fantasy, fandom, and fun to life through his work.  His style and method blend his background in traditional oil painting with the use of vibrant palettes and high saturation in digital painting applications.  Eric also likes to inject humor into many of his works, the most notoriously well-known being his Grumpy Cat as Disney Princesses collection.

Eric enjoys touching base with the people who follow his work and strives to continuously reach out to the art community to offer resources, tutorials, and workshops for digital painters.  He has also worked with many industry leaders, including Digital Artist Magazine, Autodesk, DeviantArt, and Wacom, to produce digital painting resources.  Eric runs a show called Backseat Drawing on both his partnered Twitch streams and YouTube videos where he works to foster support for creators by providing fun and fruitful educational content.
